I'm desperate. Desperate for Moses to eat. And while his pediatrician isn't overly concerned about it, I am getting panicked. This kid just WILL. NOT. EAT.
So I bought one of the Sneaky Chef books online. I wish I hadn't- or at least had waited until I was at a bookstore where I could look it over first. Because I don't think her tips will work for my picky eater.
Because you see, it isn't the sneaky stuff that is the problem. It's the stuff I need to sneak the sneaky stuff into. Did you follow that?
Maybe a few examples will make it clear. Moses WILL eat raw broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, and cucumbers. He loves bananas and apples. He even eats raw red, orange, and green peppers. Most of the time. It comes and goes, because he is 3 and his tastes fluctuate. I also think he gets tired of them because they are the ONLY things he will eat.
He also eats cookies and cakes, of course, and sometimes breads. He does like Eggo multi-grain waffles.
He WILL NOT eat: Grilled cheese. Hotdogs. Peanut butter & Jelly. Tater tots. Chicken nuggets if they aren't Banquet white meat frozen chicken tenders-- which Walmart has stopped carrying. Pizza-- unless it's a certain frozen variety from the store. Corndogs-- although rarely he will eat a Foster Farms chicken corndog (but again, Walmart doesn't always carry these). Sometimes he will eat spaghetti.
What's crazy is he can tell a "fake" before he even tries it. A piece of pizza might look and smell exactly the same as the frozen brand he likes, but he won't even touch it. He's got some kind of crazy, extra-sensory perception or something.
So we are good on fruits and vegetables. We are good on grains. What is missing? PROTEIN.
In other words, he won't eat any of the "fool-proof" kid foods that I'm supposed to be sneaking nutrients into.
Maybe this is covered somewhere in the book. I'm too frustrated to keep reading at this point (it doesn't help that there aren't many pictures! I need pictures!).
Anyone have any ideas worth trying? (Not even bribery works! And believe me, I have tried to bribe-- with an entire box full of "prizes" if he will just TRY certain foods....)
*sigh*

It wasn't just a fluke
Two days in a row now, ZuZu has said "Momma" when she wants me. At first I thought I was hearing things, but now that she has used it a second day and appropriately, I know she knows what she is saying!
AND.... she pulled up on Moses' chair today! I can't believe this. She's not even 7 months old yet.... are we in store for some craziness in the next couple of months?

We don't need to plan for retirement
Because Moses is gonna be a rock star.
On a similar note, K and Moses were having a dicussion the other day that went something like this:
K: Moses, you're a rock star.
Moses: No Daddy, you a rock star. You Mac Powell.
He cracks me up.

I'm still laughing about this one
When we dropped Moses off at AWANA tonight for Cubbies, an elderly man stopped and asked K a question. When K got in the car our conversation went something like this:
Me: What did that man ask you?
K: He was looking for some guy named "Butch Lutrine"... But he had kind of a low, grumbly voice....
Me: You gave him directions to the bathroom, didn't you.
K: Yeah.
It doesn't quite come across as funny in writing as it did in person, but I think I laughed for about 10 minutes straight.

Preschool Spiritual Knowledge
This morning Moses and I were having a conversation about Jesus over breakfast. He's in Cubbies (AWANA) now and he loves learning his verses and telling people what he knows. So we were having a conversation about how much Jesus loves Moses.
Then he burst out with, "Jesus at the door."
And I thought to myself, "Wow, I wonder if they talked about Jesus standing at the door and knocking last night at Cubbies?"
Then he said, "Jesus is coming."
And again I thought, "Wow, what spiritual foresight for a 3-year-old!"
But then he concluded with, "Jesus is coming in the red car!"
I don't remember reading that part in his Cubbies book....

What a difference a year makes...
Today was the first day of preschool-- Moses is in the 3-4 class this year. Watching the new kids arrive, we were SO GLAD that we put him in the 2-year-old class last year. He was so excited to go to school, was waving at all the kids as he walked in, and... he didn't even say good-bye! His teachers made him come back out of class and say bye. What a big boy!
Just to refresh your memory, this was last year:

Crying after we made him put clothes on

A little happier here because we let him wear his pajama shirt

This one still breaks my heart!
And this year:

Showing me his cubbie with his name

Walking in without even saying good-bye!

Quickly signing "I love you" after his teachers made him say good-bye
I had a hard time with it this morning-- he is moving in to boyhood and I'm not sure I like it. As K put it, last year we left Moses there crying- this year I left crying!
